Clegg Impact Tester new GPS and Bluetooth- For Horse Tracks, The 2.25 kg Clegg conforms to standards testing for H.R. 133 Title XII—Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act of 2020 for the racetrack safety program (Stimulus BILL 116 HR 133 Public Law 116–68). It can be used on Dirt, Turf, Synthetic and Grass racetracks. The Clegg Impact Tester is a professional instrument used to determine hardness on all types of areas - Readings in Gravities (Gmax), CIT's and F355 Equivalent

The Clegg Impact Tester is used to determine the hardness of all types of areas. Readings are in Gravities (gMax), CIT's and F355 Equivalent and has wireless Bluetooth display, GPS enabled tablet with data logging and mapping.

The unit comes in three main models:

The PNCLEGG-S-0.5 is a 0.5 kg Model used for testing Golf Greens, approaches and bunker sand. The hammer is lightweight so it will not damage putting surfaces during testing.

The PNCLEGG-S-2.25-A is a 2.25 kg Model used for testing natural grass & synthetic turf athletic fields and reads from 0 to 150 Gravities, 0 to 15 CIT's or 0 to 218 - F355 gMax equivalent readings. This model is the same model that is used to test all NFL National Football League Stadium Fields before games and also all NFL Practice Facilities. App also converts readings to F355 equivalent. The 150 gMax reading on this unit is sufficient for maximum impact readings in the ASTM F355 range after using the conversion formula. 200 g's on F355 Impact Tester = 135 g's on Clegg Impact Tester. The standard test protocol for sports field testing is to drop the hammer one consecutive time on the test area for the reading result.

The PNCLEGG-S-2.25 is a 2.25 kg Model used for Equine testing on Dirt, Turf, Synthetic and Grass racetracks, arenas, equestrian areas and all equine areas. The 2.25 kg Clegg conforms to standards testing for H.R. 133 Title XII - Horse racing Integrity and Safety Act (HISA) of 2020 for the racetrack safety program (Stimulus BILL 116 HR 133 Public Law 116 - 68).Clegg Impact Tester Mapping with GPS Image

The principle behind the Clegg Impact Soil Tester or Clegg Decelerometer, is to obtain a measurement of the deceleration of a free falling mass (hammer) from a set height onto a surface to determine hardness. The impact of the hammer produces an electrical pulse, which is converted and displayed on the GPS enabled tablet in gravities "gMax", tens of gravities "CIT" or F355 equivalent units. Reference ASTM test methods ASTM 1936, ASTM F355, D5874 and F1702. The Clegg offers the convenience of rapidly testing compaction variations over large areas.

Clegg Impact Tester Winner fo the SFMA (Sports Field Managers Association Innovative New Product Award The standard test protocol developed by Dr. Clegg is to drop the hammer four consecutive times on the same location with the highest value result in the series taken as the Peak Clegg Impact Test result. Since that time, other test protocols have been used based on the materials under test and the application. These other protocols vary the Hammer drop height or use the average result in place of the peak. The Clegg offers the convenience of rapidly scanning compaction variation over large areas. In research studies, 250 tests were performed with the Clegg in a half-day. For Horse Tracks, The 2.25 kg Clegg conforms to standards testing for H.R. 133 Title XII—Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act of 2020 for the racetrack safety program (Stimulus BILL 116 HR 133 Public Law 116–68). It can be used on Dirt, Turf, Synthetic and Grass racetracks.

Simple and quick test procedure

  1. The test procedure is very rapid and can easily be performedClegg Impact Tester / Clegg Decelerometer shown with Turf-Tec Level by site personnel with minimal training. Each test can be completed in less than 30 seconds and the results are immediate.
  2. Select a level surface.
  3. Set the guide tube into position. Secure by placing a foot on the tube's base flange and steady with the lower leg and knee.
  4. The tablet app is placed in the test mode.
  5. The Hammer is raised to the drop height quick release trigger and indicator Clegg Impact Tester / Clegg Decelerometer Control unit mark.
  6. The level is centered.
  7. The Hammer is released allowing it to fall freely.
  8. The Gravities value (Gmax), CIT value or F355 equivalent reading is displayed and is instantly saved, along with the GPS coordinates, into the Clegg app.
  9. Move to the next test site and repeat the test procedure.

The Clegg may be transported and operated by one person, allowing for low cost, rapid field and laboratory testing and direct readout of the test results. The Clegg can test a full range of natural grass fields & synthetic turf fields, all athletic surfaces, pads, infill materials and amendments where hardness or impact characteristics need to be controlled for safety or playability. The Clegg can also test a full range of soil and stone as encountered in the construction of flexible pavement and earthworks. It is useful for quickly checking variations during construction and monitoring changes over time due to seasonal environmental changes or road traffic as well as testing natural and "as constructed" conditions.
